A Shield from the Storm

Posted on October 26, 2013 at 2:00 PM Comments comments (2)

Is there a storm brewing in your life?

Shield yourself with Faith!

Faith brings the unseen into view and makes the impossible, possible.

Your pain has a purpose, your problems, struggles, heartaches, and hassles cooperate toward one end... the Glory of God!

Right in the midst of the storm when it is at its fiercest, don't hold back from the trial of it. Go right on in, God is already there to meet you and keep you. There is where you find His intended solution and an opportunity to both serve and glorify Him as He leads you through and to a better end.

"You will come forth with a shining face and indomitable faith that all the demons of hell shall never afterwards cause to waiver." - E.A. Kilbourne

"He hath aquainted himself with my beaten path, when He hath searched me out I shall come out shining." (Job 23:10) Free Translation Bible

Will you trust Him amid your storms?

Opportunities not obstacles

Posted on September 28, 2013 at 4:20 PM Comments comments (1)

Our Trials are great opportunities, though all too often we look upon them as even greater obstacles!

We're too blinded by our own wills, wants, and ways to see that the Lord intends for our troubles to deepen our character - to make us more like Him.

Job was tried so that His godliness might be confirmed. Why are you being tried?

Let's look at Job:

His afflictions left him with a higher conception of God and lowlier thoughts of himself. In those wearisome days and nights God gave Job glimpses of future glory, and for that he could proclaim "...for I know that my redeemer liveth." (Job 19:25) KJV

Are you looking for those "glimpses" from God? Can you see the way through God to your glory? It's there... follow Him!

"So the Lord blessed the Latter end of Job more than the beginning" (Job 42:12) KJV

Through his troubles, Job came into his heritage provided for by God. God had to remove the first life to provide for the second. He does away with the old in order to bring the new!

There are blessings that we cannot obtain if we cannot first accept and endure (as a blessing) the suffering that sometimes comes.

Only through a steadfast faith in Him can we emerge as Victorious Souls - Dauntless and Unafraid!

I wonder, could we ever cry out as Job did? "Now, mine eyes seeth thee!" (Job 42:5) KJV

Step by step the way is opened

Posted on July 18, 2013 at 5:45 PM Comments comments (1)

As I was talking with a sister in Christ, we shared a mutual feeling; we were both seeking the Lord in a deeper way and yet felt something was lacking.

How so? We pondered!

A few days later the Holy Spirit answered – “When we are seeking Him with a passionate heart, to follow and obey, to become more like Him, we will be content and fulfilled, yet there will always be a longing – a yearning, for “oh, so much more!”

We should never reach a plateau in which we feel “this is it, this is all there is.” (Which is where we thought we wanted to be, or where we would get to) where we’ve reached the highest point attainable on our journey. This is the wonder and joy of an intimate relationship with our Lord, our awesome unfathomable God, whose depths and heights can ever be reached!

In fact, He doesn’t want us to remain in one place, but continue on the “upward path” becoming more and more like Him. Even a vague sense of discontent within our soul can be calmed by making Jesus Christ our highest priority.

This “discontent” that drives us serves God then doesn’t it!?

Let nothing then, hinder us from our pursuit!

When you walk, your steps will not be hindered, and when you run, you will not stumble.” (Prov 4:12) NKJV

What about the Treasure of God!?

Posted on July 3, 2013 at 11:40 AM Comments comments (1)

Are pursuits, pleasures, and possessions more enticing and more exciting than the things of God and eternity?

If you claim faith in Christ yet you remain just as humanistic and materialistic as those who don’t, then something’s amiss!

I mean, Hello!?

You cannot be a man or woman after God’s own heart and still have “this ole world” by the tail!

Making a decision for Christ is not a surface thing to gain eternity. It’s not an “eternity policy” taken out in your name just in case (of fire) so you can sleep a little more confidently while you continue on in your own way, your own treasures.

Christ IS the treasure!

We should seek Him even more passionately than we seek the temporal things of this world. In fact, if you are truly seeking Him, He promises that you will find Him, and when you do, you will quickly find that He becomes the only treasure that you seek! The junk and stuff of this world will soon fade away, but the treasure that is Christ remains with you for eternity (and you with Him).

“Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.” (Col 3:2) NKJV

For such a time as this!

Posted on June 12, 2013 at 3:55 PM Comments comments (1)

Journaling during my quiet time with the Lord, I needed a phrase to relate "Who I am in Him". After jotting down this one and that and scribbling them out, I was in deep thought when in the margin I wrote "By His design". At that very moment my eyes were drawn to an old devotional book "Streams in the Dessert" and "June 1st" resonated in my spirit though it was only mid May. As I read, the tears trickled down - for an out-pouring  of the Holy Spirit was taking place. The book's first printing was 1925, bu the message "O Hallelujah" was for such a time as this!

"I entreat you, this is a dangerous temptation of the adversary. Give no place to dispondency! Melancholy contracts and withers the heart and renders it unfit to receive the impressions of Grace. It magnifies and gives a false coloring to objects and thus renders your burdens too heavy to bear..."

(and here it is)

"...God's designs regarding you and His methods of bringing about these Designs are infinately wise." - Madame Guyon

"By His Design" makes it possible for a vessel of clay (that we are) to overflow with the Living Water.

"This is the rest with which you may cause the weary to rest," and "This is the refreshing" -Isaiah 28:12 NKJV

How Great and Awsome is our God!?

Let's give Him Praise!

"Same Old Same Old"

Posted on May 28, 2013 at 9:10 PM Comments comments (0)

"Same old same old" has me singing the blues!

I make a cup of tea to lift my mood and I notice as I figit, the teabag tag has a message...

"Work, but don't forget to live!"

Is that what I have done!? By always doing, have I failed to become?

O Lord, extinguish within me the feelings of self-importance and my egotistic longing to "do it all". Help me Lord to overcome the hold that habit, routine, dullness, fatigue, and fear have on me! Create in me Lord God, a carefree tranquility, an unhurried disposition, unreserved receptivity, a letting go of the myth of perfection in this world.

"As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the Lord is flawless" Psalm 18:30a,b (NIV)

It has been said "He that seeks perfection on earth leaves nothing new for the saints to find in heaven." - author unknown

Let's wait for Him! Amen?

Confusion, Conflict, Calamity?

Posted on May 27, 2013 at 11:30 AM Comments comments (0)

When confusion, conflict, calamities, or chaotic situations come into my life, I cause alot of commotion myself...

complaining and murmering, "woe is me!"

But scripture teaches the opposite:

"Count it all joy when you fall into various trials..."

(oops! I can't count all of the times I haven't)

"... knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience." James 1:2-3 NKJV

P-A-T-I-E-N-C-E

"Knowing" this now, I am praying a new way;

not "Lord get me out of this mess!"

but, "O Lord, help me to make a true use of this trial that I must endure, to grow me toward you and unite my heart with yours." Amen!

Believe me, it's worth it all because of Him...

Leave the "trail of trial" and begin a journey on the "path of patience".

...and I was Fed

Posted on May 17, 2013 at 12:20 AM Comments comments (1)

With my hands in dish water and gazing out the window at the birds gathering at the feeders the Holy Spirit spoke to my heart "Psalm 62".

I resisted, but the Spirit persisted (that I too be fed), "Psalm 62" was the message resounding now. I sighed, dried my hands, and I read as I underlined and "starred" selected verses...

"In God is my salvation and my glory; the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God." verse 7 NKJV

I was immediately elated, and just had to share this with others! Then, all "hell" broke loose - the whole week was just one episode after another in a long drawn out drama until the devil had me right where he wanted me - deflated; but, praise God - praise God... not defeated!

Because the Holy Spirit spoke again, "Psalm 18" and this time I went right to it! I read, underlined and "starred"...

"The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer." verse 2 NKJV

At this, the second part of what seems now to be a two part message, I finally got it, loud and clear!

"Live it!", "Live Life for God and in God!"

"Stand on the Rock" don't look for one to hide under...

Psalm 18 is a song of victory...

When God truly becomes the rock we stand on, truly is the fortress in which we are, and we truly recognize Him and Him alone as our Savior and Protector then we can truly live abundantly, because without Him, we are vulnerable and exposed to everything else that the world (the devil) will throw at you.

His Favor Is For Life

Posted on May 6, 2013 at 1:55 PM Comments comments (0)

Recently Pastor Joe read Psalm 30 in the Worship Assembly and it hit home for me... again!

It is a familiar passage that I've trekked through many times. Psalm 30 is marked in my Bible as a "revelation" in 2011 where I had underlined verses 1 and 5(b) and then in March of this year (2013) I wrote this:

"Down deeper and deeper into the gloom of depression I fell, I lifted my eyes in what I thought to be hell, though not a sign of a fiery furnace.

I was overtaken by the chill of a cold dark tomb that I was enclosed like a cacoon. I cried out, "Lord lift me from this pit of despair!"

He answered me before mere man could hear my plea and carried me in His bosom of love,

Lifted me higher and higher 'till at last I was free of the prison of fear,

and onward did my spirit soar to the realm of glory!"

Psalm 30:1 "I will extol you O Lord for You have lifted me up"

Psalm 30:5(b) "His favor is for Life, weeping may endure for a night, but Joy comes in the morning"

Praise Him!

Clearing the Clutter (just let it go)

Posted on May 6, 2013 at 1:40 PM Comments comments (1)

Clearing some "clutter", I picked up a "Coffee Table" book that I had used for decor to put it back on the book shelf, it had served its purpose, or had it!?

As I thumbed through it, I came across a chapter entitled "He laid it down". In this chapter, when it came time for a Missionary couple to return to the USA, she had to "let go" of many sentimental keepsakes etc. She continued to "hang on" to all this "stuff" as her husband continued to say "yield!" Realizing she needed the Lord's strength in this problem, she cried out "Lord, release my hold!" and she was able to let go!

In Numbers 18:20 (NKJV) God said "I Am your share and inheritance", and this promise is still the Truth in this day (maybe especially in this day)! In our persuit of "things" here on earth, we would do well to remember this: We may not have many earthly treasures, but in having Him, we have everything!

From rags to riches glory we proclaim, but from riches to rags does faith remain?
